The key to making a strong scented reed diffuser is your choice of Diffuser Base and Fragrance Oil. In this article we will focus on the base oil for diffusers.
Reed Diffuser Base:
The reed diffuser base is the carrier system. It’s what carries your beautiful fragrance oils up the reed sticks, allowing your creation to fill the room with a wonderful aroma. If you don’t add a diffuser base the fragrance won't carry or flow. And if you use a poor quality diffuser base, your experience may be limited, so this selection is important.
Be mindful there are many different types of Diffuser bases in the marketplace and some are better than others. So we always suggest trialling a base with a small sample size and test its performance to your own requirements and expectations.
Top Diffuser Base Options
Diffuser Base Specially Engineered
The best carrier for a diffuser base is a specially designed Reed Diffuser Base like the one we sell at Glassware Imports. We’ve been selling this specific base for over 10 years and we sell hundreds of litres each month. It’s tried and tested by thousands of clients. It’s soluble in water and readily biodegradable. The potential for bioaccumulation is low. It is not dangerous for the environment and there is no alcohol added to our Diffuser base.
Natural Alternative
For our natural enthusiast, low viscosity (thin) oils like Sweet Almond Oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil are decent natural alternatives, but be mindful they will never perform as well as a specially designed Diffuser base.
Our Evaluation Process
When going through the process to choose a Diffuser Base we considered the following:
- The product had to have a low flashpoint to be a Non dangerous good for shipping purpose. If products are classified as Dangerous Goods (DG) it means, it’s highly flammable and requires special storage and shipping conditions which add unnecessary costs and potential legalities.
- Our base had to be odourless and a clear liquid. Bases we had previously used had a very strong chemical or ethanol aroma and we found this interfered with the performance of some of our more delicate fragrance oils.
- We wanted a base with Low Vapour Pressure (LVP-VOC) – Its low volatility minimises strong chemical odours and inhalation risks for workers and the end consumer.
- We wanted an alcohol/ethanol free base due to the high evaporation rate and odour it produces. This is why our base is long lasting. Having alcohol free allows clients to choose to add it or not.
