Designing a label for your candle collection

If you are the artistic kind who has that innate creative flare, you will love this part of your brand development. If you don't, it could be a struggle so we suggest engaging with some experts to assist you. This article will share some of the things we've learned over the years that may provide some direction and save you a little time and money.

We will cover

  • Logo Design Style
  • Label Type
  • Where to get them
  • Estimated cost
  • Brand/Logo Refresh

Logo Design

Is it the chicken before the egg or the egg before the chicken. What do you evaluate first. For us it's about making sure the logo and label design compliments the candle containers, candle lids and gift boxes in your scented product collection.  We’ve liaised with hundreds of customers over the years and seen many of their finished products, and will say too often we see branding that does not suit the glassware of choice.

So the lesson here is dont lock in your logo design and colour, before you decide on the type and colour of candle containers, lids and gift boxes you want to use.  As one may influence the other.

Label Size & Type

Keep in mind that all rules can be broken, however as a general rule we say, if your glassware is squarish with sharper edges go for a straight edge label. If your glassware promotes curves and soft edges, consider round edge labels.  See following a couple of examples.

We feel these two designs work very well.

Good Label Designs

These two designs dont look as pleasing to the eye.

Where To Buy

Once you have a logo and label design locked in, it's time to get some stickers printed. You can find many label printers online however one we've used previously is https://www.ozstickerprinting.com/

See following some indicative price options from Oz Sticker Printing:

  • 100 Standard Vinyl Stickers (Rectangle | Die Cut) for $100 ($1.00 each)
  • 500 Standard Vinyl Stickers (Rectangle | Die Cut) for $127 ($0.25 each)
  • 1000 Standard Vinyl Stickers (Rectangle | Die Cut) for $206 ($0.20 each)

If you don't have a specific logo/brand yet, Oz Sticker Printing has their own inhouse graphic designers and can help their customers with this logo creation and design process. They offer this as a free service for creation/recreation of basic designs. This is a great value add for anyone just starting out.

Brand/Log Refresh

Everything gets a little old and stale after a while, so you need to refresh your logo and colour scheme every few years. It can be just a small tweak here or there, it doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul. A refresh will infuse new energy into your brand and your customers will appreciate it.
